John Postlethwaite's Tavern--Lancaster Pa.
The Tavern, was an important public house in the Indian trading region.  John Postlethwaite invited the first court to meet here, beginning Aug. 5, 1729.  The first case brought to trial was a thief, who was sentenced...to be publicly whipped on the bare back.
